On December 10th 2008, a civil society campaign was launched to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the universal declaration of Human Rights [UDHR] .This project is pioneered {initiated}by a group notable activists known as “ Elders” and seeks to reclaim the principles in the UDHR through the massage that Everyone Has Fundemantal Human Rights.
Nagaad Umbrella is privileged to be a partner in this UDHR campaign, which comes at a time when both women’s rights and human rights are being challenged in too many settings. Human rights can not be Universal, without human rights for women. The UDHR campaign offers an opportunity to advocate for women’s rights and the quest to end gender inequality, and create world free from violence, discrimination and injustice. As part of this campaign, Nagaad has carried out different activities aimed to promote women’s rights, including: - A human rights training for police corps, traditional and religious leaders.
- Investigation, documentation, monitoring and advocacy training and psychosocial training for Heegan members and other partner organizations including APAX organizations in Hargeisa.
- Policy dialogue through media Participants
- Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) community Training on Human Rights.
- Held National gender policy popularization training participated different people from Government, Civil society organization, Burao and Borama Regional representative of ministry of family affairs and social welfare, Media ministry of Religion, Traditional leaders, University students, women and child rights activist
- Conducted Community sensitization W/shops on H/R at Arabsiyo and Hargeisa
- Developed five women’s rights Guidelines;
- Community guide: Women justice booklet
- Guide for duty bearers
- Community guide: Islamic women’s rights
- Community guide: women’s human rights under traditional law
- Community guide: women’s Human rights
- Developed {IEC material} a cartoon with massages and poems on women’s rights. Also developed posters for abolition of all discriminatory laws
- Organized and conducted commemoration of 16 days of activism {25 November- 10 December,2008} for main towns [Burao, Borama and Hargeisa
