Meeting on Millennium Development Goals Held in Hargeisa |

On 10th March 2010, a one day workshop organized by Ministry of National Planning and coordination with United Nations for development programme held at Maansoor Hotel Attended by Ahmed M.Khaire representing Nagaad Umbrella Organization, the objective of the workshop was millennium development Goals process launch in Somaliland. After registration of all participants, His Excellence Honorable Ahmed Hashi, Vice Minster of National Planning and coordination made the opening remarks Of the program, Ignatius takawira and Siriram pande of UNDP briefed the objectives of the workshop and overview of Millennium development goals.
The millennium development goals (MDGs) are eight goals to be achieved by 2015 that respond to the world’s main development challenges. The MDGs are drawn from the actions and targets contained in the Millennium declaration that was adopted by 189 nations-and signed by 147 heads of state and governments during the United Nations millennium summit in September 2000. In a presentation made by Siriram Pande of UNDP he noted that the eight MDGs break down into 21 quantifiable targets that are measured by 60 indicators. - Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
- Goal 2: Achieve Universal primary education
- Goal 3: Promote Gender equality and empower women
- Goal 4: reduce Child mortality
- Goal 5: Improve Maternal health
- Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
- Goal 8: develop global partnership for development.
